In February we alerted you to a horrible accident that occurred in Bradenton, FL. A senior driver thought her SUV was in drive. But it was in reverse and she killed three people in her church's parking lot and injured five others.
FL woman kills three with SUV in reverse
But the deadly accident was not the first time 79-year old Doreen Landstra lost control of her Chevy Tahoe. Three years ago she drove her Tahoe into a McDonald's...
Police reports show Doreen Esther Landstra drove her 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe into a McDonald's in Bath, Mich. Police reported that, when she pulled into a parking space, she hit the gas pedal instead of the brake.
“We did have a car go into the lobby,” said a supervisor at the fast food restaurant. “There were no injuries.”
The supervisor refused to comment further about the accident that occurred on July 28, 2011. The Tahoe damaged a railing, glass and part of the building. Police did not issue a citation or provide a cost estimate of the damage.
In 2013, Michigan authorities required Landstra to take a driver improvement exam twice because of “a medical condition,” according to records obtained by the Sarasota Herald-Tribune.
Ms. Landstra is due in court today to face charges related to the February crash. But Doreen Landstra won't face any jail time because Florida troopers said there was no criminal intent in the crash.
Instead she will likely have her driver's license suspended for six months. She faces a $1,000 traffic citation for improper backing.
Just think... In six months she may be On the Road Again. God help us all.
