If you're looking for really low-cost transportation, Elio Motors may have just what you need. It's a three-wheeled vehicle that seats two. It has air-conditioning, power windows, power door locks, three airbags, two seat belts and a radio.
Believe it or not, this innovative American automobile is said to deliver 84 miles per gallon (highway);(49 mpg city); and that's because of its design: by seating a maximum of two people (front to back) and tucking the third wheel in the rear of the vehicle the design inherently increases fuel efficiency. And they expect to start bringing them to market as early as December 2014 for $6,800.

Each Elio comes equipped with a Safety Management System that includes three airbags – a reinforced roll-cage frame, Anti-Lock Braking System, and 50% larger crush zones than similar vehicles. Preliminary safety tests on computer models anticipate a 5-Star safety rating.
The Elio is powered by an inline, 3 cylinder, .9 liter, 55 HP, fuel-injected, SOHC gas-powered, liquid-cooled, automotive engine.
5-speed manual or automatic transmission is available.
The company's website says: "The engine is in the front and it is a front-wheel-drive vehicle. So, with a low center of gravity and weight towards the front, you’ll get great traction action – even in the snow."
Elio production is slated to begin in the spring of 2014 at their Shreveport, Louisiana plant. Paul Elio said the company is taking orders now and he expects to deliver on those orders beginning in December, 2014. Stay tuned!
