In fall, you can see bright yellows, oranges, and electrifying reds in the dense hillsides. There are many festivals and craft fairs along with orchards where you can pick-you-own apples and pumpkins. Gas prices in this area are currently in the $3.60s, but you're likely to save by mapping your trip using GasBuddy's Trip Cost Calculator
Next up, Aspen, Colorado, for all those Buddies living in or near the Rockies. While you may think Aspen is only for skiing, those that do are missing out. The peak in color here is in late-September, but by early October, don't expect much to be left. There's plenty to do and see around here, including mountain biking and golfing. Gas prices in Aspen tend to be expensive, but filling up nearby can yield prices in the $3.60s and $3.70s.
For West Coasters, venture into Oregon and head to the Columbia River Gorge. If you do, you'll be able to check out the rest of the Cascade Mountains, which the gorge cuts into, creating a border between Washington and Oregon. For East Coast Buddies, you'll want to check out Skyline Drive, Virginia, where the Blue Ridge Mountains create a perfect backdrop to the beautiful foliage every mid-October. Futhermore, Shenandoah National Park is a great place to check out the views and activities. The 105-mile long Skyline Drive is a great place to check out the colors, and with gas prices in Virginia averaging $3.21/gal, driving expenses are among the lowest compared to other destinations.

is a cozy town packed with colors just an hour away. Orchards, fruit stands, rolling hills all decorate this state. Tahquamenon Falls
are a favorite for many tourists, hiking, walking are activities available in addition to seeing the bright orange, yellow, and red colors from Michigan's maple trees. Many of Michigan's farms also offer fall activities, so don't miss out. Michigan's gas prices make visiting affordable as well, with prices currently in the low/mid $3-range.
