I finally heard back from GasBuddy. This is what they said. " On GasBuddy, "Regular" is regarded as no-ethanol, and "Midgrade" is regarded as E-10. This would mean, when reporting prices, Mid is virtually always less expensive than Reg in Iowa.". This tells me that regular gas (E0) is entered into the REGULAR category and E-10 is entered into the MIDGRADE category. This information is also on the Gasbuddy.com web site. This also tells me that Gasbuddy is looking at ethanol content and not octane.

Here is the rest of the previous message. === My Last Answer From GB ====== Octane can vary from station to station, from brand to brand, and from area to area. I hope this helps. Regards, Don (DH) GasBuddy.com

So far, GB Admin has not answered my request for clarification. I resubmitted it today.

by Jarol  Sep 24, 2015

Thanks for your response. Since GB Admin has told you the opposite of what they told me, I have again asked them for clarification. I'll go by what they say but right now, they have responded differently to us.

Your quote is not correct according to the GB Administrator. Regular gas is 87 octane regardless of alcohol or not. In your profile photo you show regular and premium with no mid-grade. The Administrator wrote to me to say that we have our choice in Iowa as to "which regular" we want to post but mid-grade is 89 octane. The GB website just does not accommodate our situation in Iowa. I have suggested to them that they have an "alcohol and no alcohol" option just like they do different prices for "cash - credit" but so far there have not been any changes in the website to meet this need.
