Motorola
Offenders beware- police vehicles are about to take a huge step forward, and you may be caught by a team of a computer, a camera, and wireless technology.

The police vehicle of the future- brought to you by Motorola Solutions- won't have buttons on the steering wheel to change radio stations, but buttons to talk to a dispatcher, even control vehicle equipment and see surveillance video- in real time!

The 2012 Chevy Caprice Police Patrol Vehicle is loaded with goodies that law abiding taxpayers may love, but scofflaws beware. The vehicle will have eight- yes you read that right- eight cameras to snap photos of every single vehicle that it passes. In fact, those eight cameras will be positioned to help a computer scan and recognize as many as 10,000 vehicles per shift! Instead of police having to manually type the license plate, the new software and hardware setup will free up the officer- perhaps to watch nearby surveillance cameras as he sits in the drivers seat.

Motorola boasts that the system can read license plates even if there's over 100mph difference in speed between the police and other vehicles. Impressive.

How is this information being sent to police databases for recognition? 4G LTE (or Wifi) saves the day. One must wonder how much bandwidth this will cost, and if the broadband provider will set data caps on the officers (joking aside, lets hope not!)

Some city services already use such license plate recognition software for traffic and parking issues- Chicago and New York City already employ such.

What we're seeing here are the most advanced police vehicles ever, with some mind boggling technology that will hopefully help justice be served even faster- or better yet- let the police prevent crime. Check out the videos included for how this technology works!
