If you're at McCormick Place for Chicago's 2012 Auto Show (beginning tomorrow), the biggest in the nation, you may think you've died and gone to heaven. They'll have the cars of your dreams on display... the Ford Shelby Cobra GT 500; the Mustang; Corvette; Camaro; the Aston Martin DB9; the Maserati Gran Turismo; the Porsche Boxster and a nifty looking Mercede Benz SLS AMG Roadster... concept cars and convertibles, family cars and minivans; hybrids and electric vehicles... Did I mention sportscars?

Of course, they'll have some practical cars too. Hyundai said today it is adding hatchback and sport coupe versions to its Elantra compact car lineup and will unveil both next week at the show.
The Elantra, named North American Car of the Year just last month, has helped Hyundai gain respect for design and fuel efficiency. Hyundai sold 186,361 Elantras in 2011, up 40.9% from 2010. The 2013 Elantra GT will compete with the Ford Focus, Mazda3 and Volkswagen Golf.
Linda Campo, a Florida-based human resources executive, said that after many years of reliable service from her Honda Accord she traded it in for a 2012 Elantra and is glad she did. "I liked the Elantra's look but I loved the way it handled the road; the tight steering was like a sportscar," she said, "and with 40 miles to the gallon I know that's going to help me save money."
Of course, there's a lot more to see Feb 10-19 if you're in Chicago for the Car Show, and you just might go home with a new Cadillac...
Two attendees of the Auto Show's benefit gala "First Look for Charity" that helps 18 Chicago-area charities will win the keys to a 2012 Cadillac Escalade and a 2012 Cadillac SRX. The event is tomorrow, Feb. 9th. (Not a bad opportunity for just $250 a ticket, and, it all goes to good causes.)
The Cadillac Escalade seats up to eight, with generous cargo room available and is powered by a 6.2L V-8 engine rated at 403 horsepower. The Cadillac SRX, a fast-rising favorite among midsize luxury crossovers, offers the signature Cadillac style and a new, more powerful 3.6L V-6 powertrain.
