Many Americans dream of the day when gasoline price changes no longer impact their lives- constantly dealing with the weekly ups and downs of prices. I know from recent polls that many of you think gasoline prices are too high.
How about putting the keys down and walking to the store? Unfortunately, some of us don't have the ability to do this, but many living in bigger cities do. Instead of burning gasoline, how about burning calories? Let's see how your community or city rates for walking to popular destinations.
According to WalkScore.com, the top five cities for walking are:
1. San Francisco, CA, 2. New York, NY, 3. Boston, MA, 4. Chicago, IL, 5. Philadelphia, PA
The combined population of those cities (just the cities, not their outlying areas) totals 14.2 million people, or close to 5% of the population of the United States.
Yesterday, I let Chicago residents know what they perhaps already knew- their gasoline prices were as close to outrageous as you can get (just behind Honolulu and Anchorage), so maybe for those who count on their car could see how walking works out?
Just give it a shot. Burn the calories, ditch the gasoline, and enjoy the weather as you walk to the store, for coffee, etc. Take a minute to check out WalkScore.com to see how your community ranks in terms of walking and make some changes to make you or your family less dependent on gasoline!
