FYI, this article still shows up on my recent news topics and blogs. I often get old blogs when I leave the 5 top stories posted on the front page.

sorry you're bothered; I was responding to an article that had been responded to the day before. I wasn't bringing up a 7 week old story with intent; the previous two responses showing on my 'recent news' were the days before:,,,,,,,,Profile Pic

POLELANE? SUPERQUACK?

I do not understand why you are pulling up and commenting on a 7 week old story?

A lot has changed in the last 7 weeks as far as the Gulf oil disaster is concerned.
Bringing an outdated story into the mix, simply creates unnecessary confusion about what is really happening TODAY.

This article is from JULY 15.
Today is SEPTEMBER 3.

Let's hope they never have to reopen that thing.

I doubt if there is enough "underwater" oil to fret over. The Oxygen levels don't indicate a lot of it.

Great news on the one front. Now BP can put even more focus on the cleanup of the oil that is already in the Gulf (both on the surface and under the water).

the cap is closed, but there are conflicting lines of thought regarding the slow increase in pressure.

BP, scientists try to make sense of well puzzle

No time to find better articles, but this is one at least.

Enorms: they will, however they are first waiting to see if there is any pressure issue.

mpg: If you are so smart, why didn't you offer your help.

Me, I recall that they tried containments and it didn't work b/c the well was too much loaded with CH4 gas.

There are still several more critical steps to go, but we really needed BP to finally do something right.

Remember they specifically wanted a new cap with multiple ports so they could tap off oil from more than one outlet. So once they confirm it's stable do you think they are going to permanently seal it or just keep drawing off oil from three outlets to start making up for lost profits, and to pay for those law suits etc?

Now if they can deploy more oil removing vessels in the Gulf; to remove the Millions of gals of oil floating, emersed & that they mixed with soap like dispersants; before It destroys more sea & marine life, fish & foul. Then maybe it won't take a hundred years to return the Gulf Waters And Shores back to normal.

Yes this is good news. Personally I think they will need a week or so (weather permitting) to make sure it holds, but seems they finally have it right. I also think they will build another platform close to the old one and tap the well again. The work will continue now to clean up the mess and rescue more fish and wildlife that are still suffering and the BP payments better continue to the human life that have been so impacted by this accident.

don't bet on this being kept closed. The drill pipe could easily be damaged below the sea floor and leak oil through the sediments.

"This is great but why not continue to siphon off the oil and gas and bring it into production?" - Buddy2264

The condition of the failed well is unknown. It would not be prudent to attempt to continue to use it.

No new oil spillage is nothing but great news! Hopefully, this temporary cap will last long enough for the relief wells to permanently seal this well.
