Earlier this month the Allstate Insurance Company announced the results of its 7th Annual "Allstate America's Best Drivers Reportâ„¢." The report ranks America's 200 largest cities in terms of car collision frequency to identify which cities have the safest drivers, according to Allstate claims data.
This year's top honor of "America's Safest Driving City" is Fort Collins, Colo., the second year in the row for the city at the top spot. According to the report, the average driver in Fort Collins is 28.6 percent less likely to experience an auto collision than the national average, meaning in Fort Collins drivers may have a collision clain once every 14 years, while the national average is once every 10 years.
According to the Allstate report, the Best Drivers are found in the cities listed here:
1. Fort Collins, CO
2. Boise, ID
3. Lincoln, NE
4. Chandler, AZ
5. Huntsville, AL
6. Knoxville, TN
7. Springfield, MO
8. Reno, NEV
9. Eugene, OR
10. Chattanooga, TN
As you might expect, larger cities did not fare very well. Among the large cities (with 1 million or more residents) Phoenix topped the list but placed 55th overall, while Washington DC finished at the very bottom of the list at #193. (Cities ranking from 194 to 200, such as Boston, were excluded from the list because Allstate did not have sufficient historical data from Massachusetts to include them. So it ends at 193.)
