It must have been pretty bad for the owners to have fired Bernard by buying him out of his last two years of his three year contract.

That was part of it, yes, the loss of 4 million from the cancelled Chinese Grand Prix exacerbating that.
However, the continued downturn in ratings and the shadow of Dan Wheldon's death, along with the coalition of some owners wanting him gone spelled the end for Bernard.

I guess the $7-$8 million loss of the series for last season was a factor.

Hoping that one of the smaller teams are able to be up front and in the championship hunt next season.

Nice to see the triple back. Wonder if what top team will be in the running for that award.
Too bad that they were not able to get Kentucky back on the schedule. I would have gone to two races instead of just one. Oh'well!

We should see more IndyCar races next season, with Randy Bernard, CEO of IndyCar set to announce a 2013 schedule that he hopes will be 19 races on Sunday's night's "Wind Tunnel with Dave Despain" on the SPEED Channel.
Also, sometime just before the new season starts the 2 car of Ryan Briscoe will take part in an IndyCar themed version of the Discovery Channel show "Mythbusters".

I totallly agree about Will Power on the ovals. If Pocano is indeed on the schedule next year that will be another road block for him to ever win a championship.
Needs to spend the off season getting better or else he has already reached his top.

Will Power needs to improve on ovals. Being the road/street course king is obviously not good enough for the title.

Pretty good season. Hunter-Reay was deserving. Will Power is becoming the Susan Lucci of IndyCar. Wishing for two more races one oval one road course...

Glad to see Hunter-Reay and Andretti win the title. It's good to have someone other than Penske or Ganassi winning the title.

Hunter-Reay signed a 2-year extension with Andretti before the Fontana race. It remains to be seen whether Penske will even run a third car next year. It would all depend on sponsorship I think. They already told Briscoe he could look around for another ride for next season.

It was a fun season. Power should be there next year. I wonder if Hunter-Reay jumps to Penske?

Always heard the Ovals are for the engineers, and Road Courses were for the drivers, and the Street Courses for the replacement parts makers.

A lot of the streets in the downtown area are in need of repair, so, it doesn't surprise me terrbily to see the post about the course looking rough. Somewhat surprised IndyCar approved the course if it was terribly rough though.
Something for Baltimore to work on in the future.
Two championships on the line in Fontana, the overall and the A.J. Foyt Oval Course Trophy.

Power suffered from bad luck once again. He should have wrapped up this championship in Baltimore but I guess it will go to Fontana. The track in Baltimore looks rough.

I prefer them all. I think if the powers that be would mix the schedule, the love/hate could be shared. I like it when there is a oval followed by a road course followed by a temporary circuit. They went away from this citing it makes it less difficult for the teams. This shouldn't be-they are paid to race and used to be some of the best in the world.
Some of the best racing ever was the old IMSA/Camel/GT/SCCA pro drives. Sonoma, Laguna Seca, Elkhart Lake, even Pocono, held some very exciting races, even when certain teams dominated.
Track troubles at Baltimore doesn't help the temporary street course cause.

I went to Sonoma for the old Camel GT series and I saw the Jaguar prototypes run with Martin Brundle and Raul Boesel behind the wheel. Very exciting track. I wish I lived a little closer.

The road course at Sears Point is the most technical around, the passing in the pack was fun and if the series would make the push to pass easier to use with short straights it would improve the racing. Ovals are boring.

Interesting race at Sonoma. Power is the class of the field. He should have this title wrapped up already and with a little luck he might not have to win in Fontana to win the title. I am going to attend the Fontana race under the lights.

I really hope that there are more ovals. on the schedule for next year. This has been one of the most boring seasons to watch I can remember.
Follow the leader on the street and temp circuits is just not fun.
The only temp course that should be added is for Indy Lights. Let them run the weekend of MotoGP at the speedway. May bring some more fans out.
Tracks like Phoenix, Pocono, Michigan, Nashville, and especiially Kentucky should be on a schedule. No brainer. Cannot fathom why they re not even close right now.
JMO at this late hour.

Indy was a great race. Sato jumped a little too soon otherwise he might have had him. Good win and race by Dario.

Sato's move was too late and ill timed. He wasn't far enough along side to expect Dario to know he was there. Needed to get a better run out of turn 2 and make it stick into 3. Marco's move was even worse.

Sato did what he had to do. I was the last lap he had to make his move, He raced smart all day. In the end the Ganasi boys did what they had to do. If any body was impatient it was Marco Andretti when he went to low into turn one and wrecked. he had a great car a the start but I think he pushed it to much towards the end thus wrecking.

Franchitti ran a smart race and won. I was hoping Sato would win. His impatience and inexperience at Indy hurt him in the end because I think he may have had the faster car.

Anybody notice how well the GoDaddy car is running now that Danica has left the team? Hinchcliffe qualifies well and races well. We will see how he does on the ovals but if his performance so far is any indication, he should be in good shape. It's a big change over the days when Patrick qualified poorly on road/street courses and didn't do much better in the race.

The rule pushing all the Chevy drivers back 10 positions is crazy. Its not the drivers or teams fault. It is the manufacturer. That is who should be penalized.

It is a great facility no doubt about it. Lotus is doing fairly well for being so far behind. What I'm hoping is that they don't give up on it. They'll catch up, just like Honda will.
