I take an antidepressant, which is something that I had to be wary and careful about before driving a car. Everyone should take care if they are taking medications before driving a vehicle...

You would be shocked to know how many Lortabs, muscle relaxants, mood elevators some drivers have in themselves....day after day. Drive after drive.

Anybody should know how their body feels after taking medicine and not drive if they are tired or inattentive.

Lack of sleep is a huge danger as well. Our nations truck drivers are pushed to the limit often using caffeined additives and then crashing. We are a hurry hurry society

Aspirin for an occasional headache or a cold with its relieving medication are the only thing I have experienced. Otherwise, stay awake when driving or take a nap at highway rest stops or off the road when necessary. Good information to remember!

As a pharmacist I am surprised at how many people drive to work, operate dangerous machinery day after day, year after year while being treated with pain meds such as Lortabs for chronic pain. At least they claim chronic pain. One pt told me: "If they want me to work, I gotta have my back medicine." Whoever they are.

I don't take any medications right now. I should but find the side affects of most of them are worse than not taking them.

heartbroken: I agree with everything but the last statement. Taxis aren't an option in rural areas. That being said, I'm all for public transportation and the expansion thereof into the rural areas. Just ain't happening b/c it's not making money (the US mentality is still "I have the right to drive a car.").

Yes, one should not drive when medicated, or otherwise impaired.

they usually supply info sheets with any perscribed medications warning you of possible side effects , so anybody on medication who does not heed the instruction are really a danger while operating a vehicle . same thing if you " drink & drive " , you know the consequences & You are the one making the decision to drive while under the influence . You are the one who made the choice to drive under any influences . Suggestion : Make the right choice , dont take any chances that could hurt someone no matter what . There is alternative methods of transportation IE: TAXIS

if you take medications that make you sleepy on a daily basis, most of the time there reaches a point where that side effect is diminished and you can function normally.

No, but it HAS to do with driving safety, just as an article about brakes or air-bags would and falls well within the forum guidelines. Read them yourself!

Don't ever drive after you get your eyes dilated by your eye doctor. Happened to me once. I could barely see. I had to pull over and wait for about 30 minutes.

I find modern American society to be the strangest anomaly the Earth has ever seen. Every tool is drugged up, wired to a cell phone, clueless and useless as ever, in debt to their eyeballs, enslaved for ever and far too incompetent to ever become independent or think for themselves.

drive responsibly - if the label says "may cause drowsiness", don't drive OR operate machinery, etc.
your and others' lives are at stake...

Driving under the influence (of alcohol, drugs, etc.) is illegal. Those involved in accidents while DUI need to face stiff penalties. Fatal accidents caused by a driver that is under the influence should be charged with murder.

I am sure that drivers texting cause a heck of a lot more accidents that over medicated drivers do. Also, the texting drivers have lot more serious accidents that medicated drivers that may just drift off of the side of the road. A note of interest. If you dose off while driving, the vehicle will automatically drift to the right side of the road. This is because of a 3% plane in the road so rain water will run off.
