Good Morning Gas Buddies
.can't we all just get along? Rodney King passed away; but his life lives on.
I started this topic in memory of deachgo. That is still the purpose, so please honor his life here or at Daughter Earnestly Active in CHiGaO father's memory. or even Good Morning Orange County Gas Buddies in the style of his topic Good Morning Chicago Gas Buddies
Several alternatives have been suggested for GasPrice.com policy opinions.
thank you OHM

While I didn't know him, I am very sorry to hear about Chuck's death. I understand that he died of a massive heart attack and that his daughter is very young. I lost my mother when I was 15, and one of my favorite uncles died at age 42 from a massive heart attack, leaving three children. Again, I am so very sorry. My condolences to Nicole, as well as to other members of his family and his friends.

This is an In Memoriam thread. If you are not posting about the person who passed away, you shouldn't be posting here.
If you want to discuss whether or not it is fair or unfair to keep the deachgo account open this thread is a more appropriate place to do so.
Anyone posting in this thread in favor of keeping the account open should keep in mind that doing so will probably draw an opposing response and this thread will continue to be an unseemly thread in this forum. Please let your thoughts about the account be known in this thread.

Thanks Don!
Rod7 was the first friend I lost here. His real name was Rod Jensen. He was also my friend on Facebook. He died on February 27, 2009. I started a Memoriam thread for him the day after he died after receiving an e-mail from his son. He was prolific on the MSL and started over 10,000 stations all over the west coast, mostly in the Los Angeles area. He stopped at our house in Squaw Valley on the way north about a year before his death. He would always help me with the MSL. Coaching me and not meddling.
The next friend I lost was zooknoone. David White in real life and on Facebook. We talked a lot. He had heart problems and just before he went in the hospital for open heart surgery he sang this song.
I lost other friends like Burt55 and others. Eventually we will all go. I know where I'm going! ↑

Please remember that this forum is dedicated to paying your respects to users who have passed.
Whether you agree or do not agree with the course of action regarding the account, that is not the purpose of this forum. There's no need for debate in the memorial forum.
To be sensitive to the situation, please keep this thread on track.

No disrespect was intended reb4. What is disrespectful is the dishonest use of a deceased member's handle to maintain an position in a meaningless list.

I miss Deachgo. He was a great Gas Buddy and advocate of Gas Buddy, in Chicago and surrounding area sites that GasBuddy created, as well as an outstanding gasbuddy thay shows from the people that have logged in this memorial for him and his board like someone from Orange County that actually started this topic.
The people disrespecting the topic by gloating and changing the topic in the memorial section should try to support their local groups... or go to "off topic".

tlschaus, you contradict yourself to no end!!!!. On one hand you are saying that almost all point leaders have gotten others to post for them to keep their own "streaks" going. Out of the other side of your mouth say, you're suggesting that jjkltltlt shouldn't care about his own points or "streak" and that if he does he needs to get a life because the object of the GB site is just to share information. Why is it okay for everyone else to have a small community going for them to "cover" their account while they can't make it that day, while it's just such a terrible and inhumane thing if others like jjkltltlt want to defend their positions and have equal opportunity to get ahead?? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mudsprings, if you're such a great friend of Chuck's daughter and of Chuck's, then why don't you swap phone numbers and private emails and then you can talk to her anytime you like???? It doesn't have to be on this GB site, racking up points for someone who no longer exists. As for your wonderful and close friendship with Chuck - why don't you set up your very own memorial for him if you're so concerned about his memory being carried on? Go plant a tree in his honour. Visit his grave. Send the family some expensive flowers. I don't agree with your not being able to communicate with Nicole anymore - that's a totally absurd thing to whine about. She's alive and well, and yes you are able to get in contact with her in various ways. ~~~~~~~~~~ Taking over each others accounts in my opinion is an unfair attitude of the lot of you and ganging up on someone who merely wishes to defend his right to have equal opportunity is deplorable, and yes, I hope the GB police do crack down on you all for using each others accounts for this purpose!!! You should ALL be ashamed.

tlschaus, i have a life, one that, when it ends, so will jjkltltlt.
as for you saying "The fact is that almost everyone of the top points leaders have allowed others to use their accounts to keep their own respective streaks going." show your utter hypocrisy. by your very words, then they, too, should get a life, some interests other than gasbuddy. condemn them all, too, please, all high and might one, not just me.
i'm glad others have decided for me that the point of this site is to share information. well, guess what? i decided this site is for me to get points and move up in the standings. otherwise , why keep points?? as for information sharing, thanks for sharing info that deachgo was deceased, and the proper thing was done with that info sharing. i have NO problems now. do you???

jjkltltlt, you need to get a life, some interests other than gasbuddy.
The fact is that almost everyone of the top points leaders have allowed others to use their accounts to keep their own respective streaks going. (This has been mentioned numerous times in other threads). So do you have the gasbuddy police go around and delete all of their accounts too?
As others have mentioned, the point of this site is to share information, and Chuck's daughter was doing just that. And if you have that hung up, or envious, of the points streak, then you've got a problem.

Wow. This goes to show how heartless people can be. Everyone who advocated deachgo's account closure, throw some confetti when you move up one spot on the leaderboard. While you're partying the night away about a meaningless ranking, Nicole will be suffering from all this negativity.

Mudsprings, I'm sorry that you lost your friend last year, and that you can no longer talk with his daughter. I was hoping that GB would find a solution acceptable to everyone, but I guess they couldn't (or wouldn't). I thought at the very least they would keep the account open and reduce the points and consecutive days to those that Nicole earned in the last year. Instead, the account was closed abruptly.

Amen, SUVFan.
As far as closing the account, unless there was a specific violation of the readily available rules for members on this site as they stood last October 3, I think it was the WRONG thing to do.

I have no issues with continuing Chuck's consecutive days streak.
I have seen many go and then come back several times.
I wouldn't have my consecutive days streak of 2,228 right now if it wasn't for a couple of friends. I have very good friends and I do the same for them.

Deachgo's account has been closed according to Don's post in this thread yesterday.
My condolences to Chuck's family, especially his daughter, who continued posting here after her father's passing quite reluctantly. Her post on her father's whiteboard immediately after his death was quite touching. I read it again yesterday, before the account was deleted.
Clearly some posting below lack that history. To set the record straight, far from being sickening or creepy, her decision was most respectful and appeared to be in response to requests from other GBs who knew her and her father from their attendance at those "geek" meetings, as she put it.
Chuck was blessed to have such a thoughtful daughter. She deserves much better than some of what has been written below and in the linked thread at a difficult time, the first anniversary of her dad's death.

RIP deachgo. I'm saddened to learn that he died at such a young age. As far as his daughter continuing his points and his consecutive day streak, it doesn't bother me, especially if it helps her to deal with his passing. Instead of being #1555 on the consecutive days list, I'd be #1554. For total points, I'd still be #12,243. Not worth being upset about! It would be a long time before I reached deachgo's original totals, so I don't think I have "skin in this game". This gives me this idea for a possible solution: GB should poll the people who have been posting faithfully for the last ten years or so, those who are near the top of the points leaders and/or the consecutive days leaders, and get their feelings on this subject. They are the ones who are most affected by this. If they are OK with it, then let it be. If they really don't like it, then GB should take some action, but do it in a kind way.

Not sure how I ended up reading this discussion, and I don't want to get involved in the argument about point levels, ranking, and taking over other's accounts, but just in response to this post from jjkltltlt:
"...and who posts on their dead fathers account during a death/funeral??? nothing better to do??? no grieving???"
People grieve in different ways. Maybe this is that person's way of coping with the immediate grief of losing a loved family member. For example, the next day after my dad passed away (years ago) I went thru his emails to see who he had been in communication with and made a list of people to contact to tell them what happened. I was on autopilot, the real grief hadn't sank in yet.
G-d rest you and keep you Mr. Cohn, wherever you are.

I totally agree with jjkltltlt and Ladygator2007. It's unfair to have anyone take over another person's account and being started off at well over 3M points. Set up a memorial thread somewhere and those who want to remember this guy can leave memorial messages. The points for deachgo should be set to zero, as he no longer exists, only his memory does to some people.

For those that think it unfair to keep the name up. Perhaps there could be a "Hall of Fame" and the name put there. That way people are remembered and people that want their name in lights can have their moment too.

my opinion its great to keep his consecutive day alive, but not fair if he is dead maybe we should let some else become #1 consecutive days leader rest in peace buddy. Ithink we shoud create a topic in his memory, I made a promise to mt buddy BVNighthawk to keep some of his topics active.

On his Whiteboard OHMS posted (regarding deachgo)
“HE WAS NO LONGER extant(Extant is a term commonly used in biology to refer to taxa, such as species, genera and families, that are still in existence, meaning STILL ALIVE.)"
In plane language it means that deachgo died almost one year ago , but the human spices and his family is still in existence…
