5 miles/25 mpg = .20gallons
.20 gallons @ $3.50 pg= 70 cents cost to get to "less expensive fuel"
16 gallons @ 3 cpg savings= 48 cents savings
70 cents cost - 48 cents savings = 22 cents cost.
Instead of running around town to save a few cents a gallon, you may be better off getting your fuel at your neighborhood gas station.

If you own a large V6 or V8 engine vehicle, Idle consumption during winter can be way more costly than a 4 cyl econo engine 2.5 ltr. or less in size. Unless stations are say .10--$.12 priced different I never bother to hunt for a choice of one or two cents off, plus the time involved,(it's the Idling thing)again. LOLuck!!

It makes sense that the best way to save gas is simply drive less. I'm closer to the store at work than I am at home. It makes sense for me to shop after work. However, gas stations are slightly different. They determine their gas price by near by competition as well. If you simply stick with the same gas stations in your area, you are saying their prices are ok and they have no incentive to reduce their price. Those people that do gas price shopping are the ones that help keep your gas prices down. Just another point of view. :)

If you are 1/4 full, that's 12 gallons, and $.36 cents savings, which is a $.34 loss when combined with the cost of driving. Half tank leaves you with a $.46 loss per fill up.

I usually check this sight GasBuddy sight first,never run on near empty,thats costly on car parts/repair. Mabe lucky but my areas regular traveled do have many stations for fuel choice $.03- $.10 at times different pricing per gal.within a 5 mile distance or less usual. I make no special trips just for fuel only.
